Come down and support the Fire this Sunday as the players and coaches try to knock the Sea Eagles off their perch in the annual Aussie World Australia Day “Dunny Races”.
This will be the first time the Fire has entered the races and the team is hoping the agility and foot-speed honed in football will give players an advantage when it comes to loo hauling.
The Sea Eagles have held the title of fastest dunny runners on the Coast for the past two races, however the real threat is the Maroochydore Roos AFL Club, who were three-time winners in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The races are a true test of Aussie stamina; four Fire representatives will haul along a traditional Australian outhouse on wheels while a fifth team member cheers the team on from a perch on the dunny.
Technical Director Kevin A’herne Evans said his players were ready for the challenge.
“Our players are just flushed away with excitement. I hope they don’t lose or it might send them round the bend,” he joked.
“I think we are in with a chance to win, we have both agility and power; all the other codes have some factors but I think the fact that we play an endurance-based game will give us an advantage.”
The day will start at 10am at Aussie World with a flag raising ceremony, and then the dunny races will begin!
So come down and cheer on your Fire players and coaches as they race to claim the title of “Dunny Racing Champions of the World”!
