The Fire Under 18 Boys will be looking to have a scorcher of a game against SWQ Thunder this weekend to win the NPL Premiership.
The Fire will travel to Captain Cook Reserve, Toowoomba to play on Sunday. If they win the game, the boys will be crowned Premiership winners for 2013.
Coach Paul Arnison said the team were facing a lot of pressure this weekend, after playing a great game as underdogs against Strikers last Sunday.
“It is exciting to think we could win the league, but first and foremost we have to focus on the game this weekend,” he said.
“We mustn’t get carried away and think it will be an easy win, because it will be far from easy.”
He said the Fire players had thought they were out of contention for the title after a slip in form just a few weeks ago, however they had managed to put together two strong performances and regain a winning edge.
“When we lost to Redlands 2-0 I thought we had lost our chances, however we did well against Brisbane City and then again against Brisbane Strikers.”
“This weekend we will need to keep playing like we did against the Strikers, when we worked together and played for the team.”
“On Sunday the Strikers were the favourites, but this weekend the pressure is on us and we need to work to take that away and play like it is any other game.”
Arnison said preparation this week will be similar to the last few weeks.
“We have fitness on tonight and then our own training on Thursday; we’ll be trying to keep everything much the same as it has been the last two weeks.”
Sunshine Coast FC Managing Director Noel Woodall said he was very pleased to see the side with an opportunity to win the Premiership.
“The Under 18s have had a great season; there have been challenges and they have overcome them as a team to fight their way back into Premiership contention,” he said.
The Under 18 Boys will take on SWQ Thunder at Captain Cook Reserve, Toowoomba at 12:00pm on Sunday, August 18.
