Junior Match Reports – 2 & 3 July 2016

Under 12 Boys – SWQ Thunder (2) v Sunshine Coast FC (5)

It was a shaky and nervous start by both teams in Gatton this week. SWQ Thunder pushed forward early, broke away and were rewarded with a goal in the 10th minute of the match. In the 19th minute Fire left winger Kyan Bryant replied to this with some great pressure on the SWQ Thunder defender to win the ball and go 1v1 then placed the ball nicely into the right corner to level the scores. Halftime score 1-1.

Fire came out after time more composed and ready for battle. The 31st minute Fire drove straight to goal and Jake Rocker put his first goal for the game away after a keeper mistake.

Minutes later in the 37th minute, Nathan Weckert turned the ball over again in the SWQ third and delivered a nice square ball to Kane Gibbs who placed it nicely to into the back net. 40th minute some nice chasing down from Weckert getting possession back, finding Bryant who laid it off to Rocker for his 2nd goal of the game. Some nice play by the SWQ defender #12 who turned and had a cracker strike into the top left for SWQ 2nd and last goal in the game. Gibbs’ patience paid off with his 2nd goal coming in the 52nd minute with another assist from Weckert.

Under 15 Boys – SWQ Thunder (1) v Sunshine Coast FC (7)

Sunshine Coast took the trip to Gatton hoping to extend a good run and started perfectly with a goal in the first minute for the second week in a row. A lovely ball down the line from Budd Baublys released Tom Whittaker, and the strikers cross found Kaelan Debbage who provided a clinical finish.

Toowoomba settled well after the goal and caused a few issues in wide areas, and had one good chance that hit the bar; however Fire also had their chances with Harry Bowen, Tom Whittaker and Budd Baublys all having efforts go over the bar.

It took until the 32nd minute for Fire to extend the lead as Whittaker was released with a good ball and his pace took him away from a static Toowoomba defence, before he finished calmly into the corner of the net.

A corner on 36 minutes produced the 3rd goal of the day as Tom Whittaker grabbed a second goal with a strong header from a Kaelan Debbage corner.

Fire looked to up the tempo of the game in the second half as we weren’t playing with the intensity of the previous week. Beau Boucher started the second half well, with a good interception giving Tom Whittaker a chance and then some good defensive play once again from Boucher led to a shot that was saved by the Toowoomba keeper.

Set pieces were proving a real headache for the Toowoomba defence and on 54 minutes a free kick was whipped in by Kaelan Debbage with Harry Arnison out-jumping his opponent and angling a nice header into the net to make the score 4-0.

Another set piece provided the 5th goal as a short corner between Nathan Thompson and Debbage ended with another headed goal, this time to Tom Whittaker for his 3rd of the day and it was soon 6-0 and four for Whittaker as a fine pass from Nathan Thompson released Whittaker who beat the keeper with a chip.

Toowoomba got a goal back from their own set piece as a free kick from out wide was deflected into the path of a Toowoomba player left free inside the box and he finished well.

A penalty gave Fire the final goal of the game as a mazy run from Kaelan Debbage saw the winger brought down in the box, with Harry Fletcher stepping up to put the penalty away.
