Under 14 Girls:
Sunshine Coast Fire defeated Souths Strikers 4-0.
Coach Tom White said this game was about finishing a good season on a high,
“The girls deserve credit for a fantastic performance; outplaying Souths from start to finish,” he said.
The game started at a fast pace and Kirsty Clifford managed to set up Maisie Berry for the first goal. Fire held the lead for the remainder of the half and went into half-time 1-0 up.
“We were playing well and knew it was just a matter of time before we scored again which would then open up the flood gates,” White said.
After the restart the Fire continued to outplay Souths. Clifford bagged a brace to bring her season tally to 50 goals and Michelle Le Roux sealed the Fire’s win with a goal in the 48th minute.
White said he was extremely proud of the girls.
“The girls at the back were superb, starting with Katie Offer to the defenders in Teena Hartwig, Zoe Hopwood, Aqua Meanie, Kirra Guy and Holly Vidulich. Youngsters Aimee Scott, Maisie Berry and Mel Taft all contributed to a great team effort.
This game topped off a remarkable season for the girls, who lost just one game, kept 12 clean sheets and scored more than 90 goals between them.
“I’m extremely proud of what we have accomplished this year and I could not be more grateful to the players and parents for their commitment. Girl’s football at the Fire is looking promising for the future.”
Under 15 Boys:
Sunshine Coast Fire defeated Brisbane South Development 4-0.
The Under 15 Boys Fire had a great last home game against Brisbane South Development with a convincing victory.
The Fire held the majority of possession from the first whistle, playing attacking football. In the 20th minute Timi Adu was taken down in the box and the Fire was awarded a penalty, which Adu took and converted into the bottom-right corner.
Just two minutes later Cameron Nairn made a great run and took a shot with the outside of his boot forcing the Brisbane South keeper to make a great save. Adu then recovered the ball and slotted it into the empty net to double the Fire’s lead.
The Fire continued to create chances throughout the rest of the half, playing good passing football into half time.
A few minutes after the restart the Fire received another penalty, this time after a foul on Nairn who took the penalty and placed it in the right-hand corner.
Three minutes later the Fire gained a fourth goal as Alex van Kampen received the ball on the 18 yard box to turn and finish into the bottom corner.
The Fire played out the remainder of the game preventing Brisbane South from scoring.
The boys will be looking to end the season on a high with a win against Wide Bay for their last game of the season.
