Matthew Sanchez joins Fire

Sunshine Coast FC is pleased to announce the signing of Oswaldo ‘Matthew’ Sanchez to the senior squad for the NPL Queensland 2018 Season.

Sanchez previously spent time with Peninsula Power FC during 2016 in the Flight Centre Brisbane Premier League before moving on to finish the season with Albany Creek Excelsior, up to the end of 2017.

The 22-year-old forward understands the marked step up in competition from BPL to NPL and welcomes the challenge.

“The challenge I see in the NPL for myself is to perform well enough for the team to progress up the ranks within Australian football, my goal for the season is to be one of the main influences in turning Sunshine Coast Fire around from last season and try my hardest to get on the score sheet every week,” he said.

Sanchez initially planned to have a break from football this year but was attracted to the coaching ethos and culture of the club.

“I thought about not playing this season and was close to focusing on other avenues of success, when Ali contacted me to come and sign for the Fire, I was instantly filled with confidence to get back on the pitch again,” he said.

“It was a great opportunity to properly make my mark on the NPL and I believe Ali is the right coach for the new role.”

With Round 1 of the 2018 season looming, Sanchez is confident that the team is prepared for the grind of the regular season.

“Ali, Alex and other coaching staff have put in a lot of work to provide a friendly yet very competitive environment for the squad, which has allowed us all to grow immensely,” Sanchez concluded.
