The Fire are delighted to announce the official return of it’s Development Academy programme in Term 1, 2019 . The Development Academy offers local grassroots players the opportunity to not only be developed by our top class team of coaches but also possibly be identified and offered a place in our SAP/NPL programme. Throughout the term, game days will be arranged against local sides and players can continue to play for their local clubs while being part of the programme.
In Term 4 the club ran invite only to a small select group of players and the programme has already had some early success. A select few went on trial with our SAP squads and one of those players (Lee Hwara) has been offered a place in our U11 SAP squad for the 2019 season.
The programme is headed up by our Head of SAP and U18 NPL coach Gareth Thomson (FFA B Licence).
Speaking about the programme Gareth said “I believe that the Coast has a genuine need for the academy. Sometimes identifying talent can be a long process and the D.A offers us a genuine opportunity to not only develop players in a great environment but also get a look at them for a longer period of time.”
“The early success the programme has had with Lee has been great to see and our aim is to offer a year round programme that delivers genuine value to all it’s players”.
