Ashley Kingdon to lead Sunshine Coast FC’s Skills Acquisition Program

Sunshine Coast FC’s recently announced Skills Acquisition Program (SAP) will be headed up by former English Premier League youth coach Ashley Kingdon.

Kingdon, who has previously coached at three English Premier League clubs, credited Sunshine Coast FC’s philosophy and drive as the main reason for him to come on as the SAP Coordinator.

“I was impressed by how professionally the club is being run and the potential it has to push on and become an established force in Australian football,” Kingdon said.

“I spent a weekend on the Sunshine Coast to have a tour around the Fire’s stadium and training facilities, that made it a no-brainer and I really wanted to be a part of the club.”

Kingdon also expressed his excitement for the future of the SAP program and youth development at Sunshine Coast FC.

“I have already sat down with the Technical Director, Melvyn Wilkes and started planning how we want to run SAP,” he said.

“Working through the Football Federation Australia Skill Acquisition Program curriculum, all players male and female, will receive the highest standard practical coaching program.”

Sunshine Coast FC Technical Director Melvyn Wilkes thinks Kingdon’s youth coaching and goalkeeping experience will bring a different dynamic to the coaching structure.

“Ashley has a very forward –thinking approach to coaching and will use his goalkeeping experience to add something unique to the program,” Wilkes said.

Sunshine Coast FC recently held trials for the program in which 36 trialists were successful.
