Gareth Thomson: “We’re Ready To Take The Next Step”

The club have been working hard behind the scenes during this difficult time to ensure we come out stronger than before. We recently caught up with our Senior Coach Gareth to get his thoughts on the starting up again and a new appointment within the senior staff.

“The club has made great progress over the last few months including the full time junior program at Peregian Beach College. A lot of credit should go to Melvyn for his hard work in getting this program off the ground.”

“Another big addition during the break has been the appointment of Zac Woolfield to take the lead on our Senior Analysis. Zac has already made a huge impact with the work he does. The opposition analysis, player analysis and live game coding will help us make better decisions and improve our performances on the park”.

“As far as the squad goes we’re coming out of lockdown the way we came in with no player movements. Credit goes to the boys for their patience and positivity in the break, it will be rewarded! The only real negative point is the loss of Blake Howden for the season with an injury during the Holland Park game. Blake made a real impression with me in his short time with the club and we will support him through his recovery and hopefully have him back on the field next season”.

“One thing I’ve been extremely proud of is the young players we have at the club who are proving they are more than capable of playing at this level. As a coach it’s easy to use having a young squad as an excuse for things not going your way but if anything I see this as a massive strength!”.

“As a senior section we’ve also been working hard to come up with ideas to better connect with our junior section. The players have came up with some brilliant ideas which we will be rolling out as soon as we get started again”.

“I can’t wait to get back out on the field and I know we’re about to turn a corner and show what we can really do. I look forward to seeing everyone again when the restrictions are lifted in June.”
