Sunshine Coast FC has announced goalkeeper Katie Offer as its first signing to the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 Fire Women’s squad.
The 16-year-old made 21 appearances for the senior women with nine clean sheets, while also making nine appearances for the youth women in 2015 and kept three clean sheets.
Offer said that moving up to the seniors was a big step and credits Sunshine Coast FC goalkeeping coach Ashley Kingdon with helping her adjust to the higher competition.
“I really enjoy Ash, he’s a really good coach, his training sessions are really good and I’ve learned a lot from them,” she said.
Offer added that she believes the Fire women will be stronger in 2016.
“I think we have quite a strong team for next year with the girls coming together, we all get along well and that’s good for team dynamics,” Offer said.
Kingdon said that Offer is a natural in goals and has an abundance of raw talent.
“Katie is already a very talented keeper and we’ve been working on fine tuning the tactical and technical side of her game,” he said.
“She’s always open to new ideas and takes everything on board. She’s like a sponge and just keeps getting better,” Kingdon said.
Offer has also moved into an assistant coach role with Sunshine Coast FC’s community goalkeeping academy.
