VALE SHANE DWYER
All players, staff and club officials extend their deepest sympathy to Jenni, Leon, Brenton and Riley. Leon's return to the Sunshine Coast and his involvement in our club enabled Shane to witness his eldest son continue to play football. Shane was a regular spectator at our home games, amazingly even on a cold and wet Round 14 fixture. This demonstrated to us his great love for Leon and the game. We understand our Premiership win, which he was able to witness, and some of the season highlights - including Leon's goals - were enjoyed by Shane.
To the Dwyer Family - we are thinking of you all at this sad time and hope you feel you are part of our own club family.
FOOTBALL FANS WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER SHANE

There is a fan bus leaving Stockland Park at Kawana tomorrow morning. It is heading to Albion, ferrying Sunshine Coast Football Club fans to the Queensland grand final. Shane Dwyer should have been on that bus. He should have been southward-bound to watch eldest son Leon's return from injury in the league grand final.
But the universe had other plans for Shane. Shane died on Thursday after an 11-month battle with motor neurone disease. He leaves behind wife Jenni and sons Leon, 23, Brenton, 16, and Riley, 13.
Before his diagnosis with the degenerative condition, in September last year, Shane was more than involved with Leon's football club at the time, Pine Rivers. Shane told the Daily this year: "Ten months ago, I was (the only parent) going out on the town in Brisbane with Leon's football team." He related that story via email after the disease had silenced the accomplished public speaker's voice.
While the disease claimed Shane's speech and mobility, it didn't dampen his dedication to the game and he became a fixture on the sidelines at Sunshine Coast FC matches, Leon's club, as of this year. Heavily involved in the Maroochydore community, Shane had been a tireless contributor before his diagnosis. He was president of the Maroochydore primary and high school P&C associations, and a member of Toastmasters, the Maroochydore Ratepayers Association and the Sunshine Coast branch of the Australian Labor Party.
But when it came to his sons and their sport, Shane wasn't just Leon's dad or Riley's dad. He was a friend. Sunshine Coast FC head coach George Cowie said Shane would be missed as a friend of all who came to know him through his involvement with the club. "From me, personally, and all the guys involved with the club, I want to extend my deepest sympathies," George said. "There are far more important things than football."
