Football Superstar – May 19

Sunshine Coast Fire v Football Superstars

Wednesday May 19, 6.30pm – Stockland Park

Sunshine Coast Fire fans looking for a free night of entertainment should get to Stockland Park on Wednesday May 19, as the boys play an exhibition match as part of Fox 8’s popular reality televison show Football Superstar.

Now in its third season, Football Superstar is a program aimed at providing an opportunity for Australia’s finest young footballers to demonstrate their skills to the nation. The contestants, aged between 16 and 21, are competing for the major prize of an A-League contract with the Brisbane Roar.

Current Roar manager Ange Postecoglou will be coaching the team of Superstars, who will need to play strong team football to get past the Sunshine Coast Fire, dominant leaders of this season’s Hyundai Queensland State League.

Current Fire winger Corey Towle was a contestant on the 2009 season of Football Superstar, and will be looking to prove a point to showrunners. Towle has been one of the star performers for the Fire this season, and many of the Sunshine Coast’s other young talents will no doubt be trying to make an impression on Roar coach Postecoglou during the match.

With eight wins from eight matches, the Fire are in red-hot form and will be hoping to show their quality against the Superstars. It will be the Fire’s last major hit-out before they take on the Queensland Academy of Sport in Round 9 of the Hyundai QSL on Sunday.

The eight-part Football Superstar series will be aired on Fox 8 in June, to coincide with the FIFA World Cup.

So for fans who want to be part of the filming of a national football program, get down to Stockland Park on Wednesday night. Kickoff is at 6.30pm and admission is free for all.
