Sunshine Coast Fire (3) v SWQ Thunder FC (0)
The last game that Fire played against SWQ Thunder was on 6th June in a Round 2 reschedule. The Fire girls played well previously to gain a 1-0 win. Today’s Round 23 match took place at Kawana Sports Precinct on a cloudy but warm day. Fire were down to ten players going into the game with one injured sub. Fire started strong, holding possession by creating good team play and shooting opportunities. SWQ Thunder tried hard to create chances but the Fire girls were in a great defensive position and were able to play through the thirds really well. This soon payed off as Abbey Hutton scored the opening goal with only ten minutes left of the first half; the ball was passed through the defence to Abbey and she slotted the ball in the left side of the goal. Fire continued with their attacking play but were unsuccessful in finding the goal again in the first half.
As the whistle blew for the second half, SWQ Thunder decided to take their chances by playing a long ball over two of Fire’s defence players but were caught out by defender Lily Paterson and cleared up the field where the ball found the feet of Abbey Hutton. Hutton dribbled past the last defender and managed to beat the keeper by striking the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal. The game quickly restarted and almost immediately the Fire girls retained possession. Within 60 seconds, the ball was once again in the SWQ Thunder’s defence line as Georgia Harle, Abbey Hutton and Teyl Danger worked together, making a combination play before Danger sent a through ball to Harle. She took a touch and neatly the ball into the middle of the goal as Thunder’s goal keeper was too far away to save the shot. Fire held possession for the rest of the game and kept a clean sheet with the game ending in a 3-0 win for FIre.

Sunshine Coast Fire (1) v Brisbane Strikers FC (1)
Today marked the fourth time that the Fire and Strikers have met this season. Having won two of the last three encounters, Fire were hoping for another win.
The game started with multiple changes in possession between Fire and Strikers. A Jordan Viera cross found Jed Zanos with a long pass beyond the Brisbane Strikers’ back four which, allowed Zanos to chip the goalkeeper. However the ball was cleared of the line by a covering defender. Izaac Watson’s cross found Rhyan Scriggins, who shot directly at the goalkeeper. Aaron Smith’s diving save from a Brisbane Strikers corner avoided an almost certain goal. A long ball into the box allowed R.Scriggins to challenge the goalkeeper, however a big collision in the box left R.Sriggins wounded. A new look back four for the Sunshine Coast involving Sean Pateman and Kelton Scriggins partnering which allowed a chance for a Brisbane Strikers player to have a shot at goal. Jordan Lloyd and Jordan Irwin combined well to work the Brisbane Strikers goalkeeper.
The second half began with Brisbane Strikers testing Smith in goal and forcing a save. The opening goal of the game was scored by Sunshine Coast’s Sean de Chastel. Luke Devitt’s cross found R.Scriggins whose shot rebounded for de Chastel who smashed the ball into the back of the net. Substitutions entered the game in the likes of Kobe Fuller and Glen Morris replacing R.Scriggins and Watson. A controversial Brisbane Strikers goal then followed after a possible foul on de Chastel lead to a long range shot 30+ yards out from goal rebounding off the crossbar and beating Smith. In the final minutes of the game patience, built-up play and a killer pass found Irwin in on goal. A well-timed volley on target forced a diving save by Strikers’ goalkeeper, keeping the score level and earning his team a point.
