Dear Sunshine Coast FC Members & Supporters
We are please to announce an exciting restructure within our senior management and coaching team at Sunshine Coast FC, effective 2024. The strategic move aims to position our club for success and ensure that we are fully prepared for the ongoing developments in the Australian football landscape.
New Coaching Leadership: We are thrilled to introduce the new coaching leadership for our club:
Melvyn Wilkes – Manager and Sporting Director (UEFA Professional Diploma): Melvyn Wilkes, with his extensive experience and a UEFA Professional Diploma, will head our coaching team. Melvyn’s wealth of knowledge and expertise will be pivotal in guiding our club forward, whilst also ensuring the pathway for the clubs best young full-time players will be seamless.
Tom Bateman – 1st Team Coach (UEFA B): Tom Bateman, a UEFA B qualified coach, will continue to be an essential part of our coaching staff. His dedication and contribution to player development have been invaluable, whilst his deliver on the full-time academy will assist in youth player progression.
Gary Newcome – 1st Team Coach (AFC B): Gary Newcome, holding an AFC B qualification, brings a strong tactical understanding of the game and will play a vital role in our coaching setup, Gary requires no introduction, having worked at senior level in the NPL, FQPL and having one of the best reputations in player development on the Sunshine Coast
Wayne Short – 1st Team Coach: Wayne Short, a dedicated and experienced coach, will continue to be an essential asset to out team, Wayne previously took the U23’s Youth Men’s squad to the FQPL1 Grand-Final in 2021
Further additions: We anticipate further additions to our coaching team in due course.These additions will complement out exisiting staff and help us maintain a strong and dynamic coaching structure.
Preparing for the future: As the club prepares itself for 2024, the management have already commenced the assembly of a strong playing squad which may find themselves heading off the coast and interstate to compete. Moreover, with the junior section of our club making the transition to full-time operation, it is imperative that we make the necessary preparations for our senior section to follow suit. This aligns with our commitment to fostering holistic player development from grassroots to senior levels.
