Sunshine Coast FC coach Paul Arnison has drawn from the Club’s pool of young talent to add depth to his squad for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season with Cameron Nairn and Kobe Fuller.
Nairn and Fuller are products of Fire’s elite pathway with both players rising through the junior ranks to the senior squad.
Nairn was brought into Fire’s senior team late in the 2015 season and was a stand-out in his seven appearances for the squad while also netting nine goals in 18 appearances for the Under-18s.
Nairn said his promotion to the senior squad is an example of how players can progress through the juniors to the senior team and hopes it inspires other players to follow the pathway.
“It’s what everyone works towards, Paul and Melvyn (Technical Director) gave me the opportunity last season to step up,” he said.
Nairn added that his experience in the senior squad in 2015 made him want to keep it in 2016.
“Those seven games gave me a head start for next year and I want to keep that spot as long as I can,” he said.
Fuller is making a bigger jump as the youngest player on Fire’s roster at 16-years-old.
He previously made seven goals in 17 appearances for the Under-16s in 2015.
He also made a late-season debut for the Under-18s, coming off the bench to score the only goal in their Round 21 fixture against Brisbane Roar.
Fuller said that his inclusion in the senior squad is an opportunity that he doesn’t take for granted.
“Paul has given me a huge opportunity. It means a lot to me, and to the guys still waiting for that opportunity to see young players reaching the senior team because that’s where we all want to be,” he said.
