Under 12 Boys – Moreton Bay United FC (1) v Sunshine Coast FC (1)

The season’s earlier encounter between these sides in Round 7 yielded Fire’s first win of the season, and after a run of four straight defeats Fire would be hoping for a similar result this time around.

The home side kicked off in bright sunshine and immediately carried the game to Fire. The early exchanges had Moreton Bay enjoying much of the possession and territorial advantage, Tanner Mathers and Herbie Allsopp both called into action to make strong tackles to deny Bay within the first couple of minutes. Fire had a very determined look about them and Mark Shaw had an encouraging run down the wing after a good pass out of defence.

The sixth minute saw the first shooting opportunity of the game go to Moreton Bay but the shot went wide. Fire continued to assert themselves in to the game and Hayden White forced a corner on 7 minutes after being played in with a good pass from Lachlan Noyes, despite the corner coming to nothing Fire continued to press, Allsopp playing another fine pass through for Jett Wouters to run onto forcing Moreton Bay to concede a second corner in the 8th minute. As Moreton Bay cleared they broke quickly and Fire were grateful for Dre Ngaha’s tackle to prevent a goal scoring opportunity.

The game was very evenly contested, no team willing to allow the other to get the upper hand, Allsopp again made several blocks in quick succession as Fire came under intense pressure in the 15 and 16 minutes, Moreton Bay restricted to hopeful shot from distance.

In the 18th minute, Ngaha confidently brought the ball out of defence and his weighted pass for Wouters was just unable to be engineered into a shooting chance as the Fire forward was crowded out.

Following more Moreton Bay pressure goalkeeper Alec Lavender was called upon to make a save, from the corner Bay headed just over the bar.

In the 23rd minute the impressive Mathers played in Shaw whose speed created him a yard of space on the Moreton Bay byline, looking up he pulled the ball back to Wouters who struck a fierce shot in the net to give Fire the lead.

Defending their lead in the final minutes of the half, every Fire player was working extremely hard, Ryan Tappouras in the heart of the Fire defence impressing with his usual strength and composure and Fire were deserving of their half time lead.

Fire took the restart and began confidently, in the 32nd minute Deepal Maharaj and Kaidin Dawson combined well down the left, Dawson sent over a cross which the Moreton Bay keeper had to save at the near post

In the 36th minute Moreton Bay were penalized for a foul on Mathers as the covering defender as the home team began to force the game. In the 37th minute Lavender was needed to make a save but couldn’t prevent a corner from begin conceded. Moments later Moreton Bay drew level when an angled drive from the edge box gave the Fire keeper little chance.

Fire refused to lie down however and the next several minutes saw a real battle taking place, Beppe Rocco, Maharaj and White all making strong challenges with determination.

In the 46th minute, Jeremy Byasse tried a shot from outside the area which took the Moreton Bay keeper by surprise and a Fire corner was won. Bay again broke quickly from this and Hayden White epitomizing the Fire effort made a great last ditch tackle. Wouters then had a shot blocked in the 47th minute. A minute later another fine run down the wing from Dawson resulted in a Fire corner, after a scramble in the box Allsopp unfortunately poked the ball wide of the post.

A well weighted Ngaha free kick in the 53rd minute was gratefully held by the Moreton Bay keeper after Noyes was just unable make contact with his head.

The final significant action saw Lavender make a save at the feet of a Moreton Bay striker as the home team tried to press for a late winner which wouldn’t come, and Fire took home the point that their committed and energetic display deserved.

Player of the Match: Mark Shaw, tireless running, great composure and vision to create the opportunity for Jett Wouters to score.

Under 14 Boys – Moreton Bay United FC (1) v Sunshine Coast FC (2)

The game started evenly with both teams holding possession well. Moreton were up for the game and were quicker to the ball as Fire started slightly slower

As the game progressed Fire slowly worked their way into the game, similar to previous weeks

Jayden Emery stole the ball just outside the Moreton 18yard box to create Fire’s first chance.  Emery flicked the ball across to Nick Harvey who layed the ball back to Aaron Smith.  Smith struck the ball well, however the ball went just over.

Smith was again involved as he made a nice attacking run.  He played a nice pass to Harvey, who still with plenty of work to do cut inside on to his left foot and placed the ball into the top corner.

Moreton Bay fought hard and were rewarded with a goal after Fire failed to deal with a loose ball inside the box. Fire created a couple of good chance on the half hour mark as Alex Patterson and Harvey both shot wide after some nice team lead up play.

1-1 at half time and a fair result after a very even first half.

Fire started the second half with more enthusiasm. Jayden Emery only took a minute to cause the Moreton defence trouble.  A great weaving run show casing Emery’s speed and silky skills allowed him to create Fire’s first chance of the half.

Shortly after Corne Boshoff exploited the same wing as he drove around his defender.  A perfectly weighted cross was just out of reach for Jake Debbage. Fire continued to apply pressure and begin to dominate the game.

With the increase in pressure, Moreton Bay were unable to deal with a ball in the box and Patterson was there to pounce.  He stole the ball and placed it around the keeper to give Fire a 2-1 advantage.  To add to the disappointment the Moreton keeper and coach were sent to the stands for dissent.

The game increased in intensity buoyed by the home crowd and certain vocal parents.  This was the trigger for Fire to lift their game.  All players dug deep as the game became more physical.

Moreton tried to come back, however resolute defence led by Captain Todd Camm ensure Fire came away with a deserved 3 points.

Player of the Match: Todd Camm – Todd led from the front and his calm measured approach always sets the platform for a solid team performance. Always consistent and the ideal Captain for this top of the table team.
