Sunshine Coast FC (8) v Brisbane Roar FC (1)

The fourth round of the season and Fire were eager to host the first home game at Kawana Western Fields. With a week of consistent rain and cancellations of football matches across South East Queensland, all players were waiting on bated breath to see if the weather would hold out, and it did.

Sunshine Coast FC took the pitch with anticipation, waiting to see what Brisbane Roar FC would offer up as they were an unknown entity with this being their first NPL season and their teams playing up a division.

Brisbane Roar FC came out ready to play driving towards the goal. A shot on goal deflected by Sunshine Coast FC goal keeper Matai Sisarich was followed in by Fernando Nash of Roar on the 2nd minute.

Sunshine Coast FC refocused and looked towards equalising the score. A corner taken by Dimitri Westwood-Pritchard came off the head of Matthew Becker to even the scores on the 7th minute.

Opportunities continued to fall at the feet of Sunshine Coast FC when a handball by the Brisbane Roar FC goal keeper rewarded Fire with a free kick. The Brisbane Roar FC defence held strong and shut down Sunshine Coast FC’s attempt to score again. Opportunities continued to present themselves with Sunshine Coast FC seeing success on the 12th minute when a corner taken by Westwood-Pritchard again landed in the possession of Becker for him kick his second goal.

A short shower of rain didn’t dampen the drive of Sunshine Coast FC with them continuing to halt the Brisbane Roar attack and strive to increase their lead. The 26th minute saw Becker place a pass through to Harry McMillan, who took on two players to place a successful shot on goal.

Four minutes later McMillan was at it again when play between Maxx Demerutis and Westwood-Pritchard in the midfield saw the ball delivered to McMillan to score.

McMillan didn’t stop there; a pass from Harrison Whitelaw gave McMillan the opportunity to score his hat trick in the first half of the match on the 33rd minute.  Fire 5-1.

Half Time: Sunshine Coast FC (5) v Brisbane Roar FC (1)

Sunshine Coast FC returned from half time with the intent to continue their lead. Westwood-Pritchard took advantage of his opportunities when he contested and won a ball played out by the Brisbane Roar FC keeper. As he drove towards goal Westwood-Pritchard successfully challenged his one-on-one with the keeper to score on the 43rd minute.

McMillan hadn’t finished with his tally of goals looking for every opportunity presented to him. Jake Rocker placed a pass through to McMillan on the right for him to score on the 53rd minute.

Brisbane Roar FC didn’t let the score faze them as they took their chances. The 60th minute saw a near miss for Brisbane Roar FC and a successful save by substitute keeper Bradford Green.

The final goal for the match was scored on the 69th minute when a throw from Whitelaw to the feet of Jack Connors was returned to Whitelaw to drive towards goal and score.

Sunshine Coast FC (3) v Brisbane Roar FC (4)

Both teams wasted no time in getting the game started. Fire was on the attack straight away with Roar applying good pressure. It was in the 4th minute that Roar was to score first with a penalty.

Fire, determined to put points on the board, came straight back playing some impressive football and good team work. In the 7th minute Fire were back in the game. Some notable work from the Fire midfield with Emery getting a nice ball to Harvey and then on to Nelson to finish off.

After Roar took the lead scoring again, Fire intensified the game, determined to score. Their hard work payed off in the 32nd minute; Vochteloo and Emery in the midfield set up Skinner to finish.

Gray took the ball running down the sideline to get the ball to Skinner but couldn’t get it past the keeper this time.

Half Time: Sunshine Coast FC (2) v Brisbane Roar FC (2)

Roar took the lead scoring two more goals in the second half. Fire were down 4-2 and started to gain some momentum moving the ball around the field.

In the 63rd minute it all started from centre-back Halls-Tempest taking possession of the ball from Roar. Halls-Tempest moving the ball to Skinner and then to Emery to assist Nelson in his second goal for the game.
