Senior Men Match Report – Fire Too Hot For Sharks

Sunshine Coast FC notched their second straight win after accounting for Palm Beach SC 3-1 at Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday.

Reyze Kelly scored either side of half-time for the hosts before Jacob Fulluck iced the result with a late goal.

Sharks had the better of the early possession, however both sides saw chances as the half progressed.

Kelly opened accounts six minutes before the break, racing on to a through-ball from Paul Arnison before delivering a composed finish.

Sharks ensured terms would be level at the break though, replying only two minutes later when Joshua Riis hit a close range finish from Nik Mirkovic’s cross.

Kelly once more proved the go-to man for Fire just after the hour – again benefitting from a through-ball before rounding Sharks goalkeeper Shane Viitakangas for an easy finish.

Sharks had a chance from the penalty spot with ten minutes remaining following a handball, however Fire goalkeeper Dale Hill proved up to task to shut-out Kristian Rees’ strike.

Substitute Jacob Fulluck then sealed the result in the final minutes, beating the onrushing Viitakangas to the ball before steering home his shot.

The result lifts Fire into the top half of the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland standings while Sharks remain in ninth.

Fire player-coach Arnison described the win as a “great achievement” against the defending PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Champions.

“(The team) thoroughly deserved the three points with our effort, commitment and work over ninety minutes,” he said.
