Under 12 Boys – Sunshine Coast FC (3) v Olympic FC (3)
With the season drawing to a close, Fire’s last home game saw the supporter numbers up and plenty of dads on the sideline to support their boys on Father’s Day.
After their last encounter with Fire, Olympic were set on redeeming themselves, immediately attacking from the get go. One minute in and Olympic took their chances down the right wing with a shot on goal with no success. Fire regained possession and retaliated with a goal by Sam Klein on the 4th minute. Fire 1-0.
Fire continued the momentum, placing pressure on Olympic’s defence, with a pass from midfield through to Flynn Faulkner, on to Klein, resulting in Fire’s second goal by Kane Gibbs on the 7th minute.
Olympic didn’t hold back, returning the favour in the 8th minute with a run down the right wing and shot on goal. Keeper Ben Nassiep had his work cut out for him as the ball skimmed across the top of goal and slid into the back of the net. Olympic were on the board. Fire 2-1.
Play continued with Fire maintaining strength in their midfield and continuing their attack. Olympic were persistent in their defence and on 24th minute this resulted in a penalty for Fire. Klein took the shot which lead Fire into half time 3-1.
Upon returning to the pitch Olympic set the tone that they were there to continue the fight and get some results on the board. The 32nd minute saw Olympic tighten the margin with their second goal. 3-2 to Fire.
Both the Fire and Olympic keepers held strong with the Olympic keeper saving a free kick taken by Klein from just outside of the box on the 15th minute. Fire’s keeper Riley Schamburg made a cracker save as he deflected the ball on the 17th minute.
Fire continued to attack and the Fire defence held the opposition at bay until Olympic scored the final goal for the match on the 58th minute off a corner.

In the penultimate match of the season, Fire played an Olympic side that had gotten the better of them on the two previous occasions they had met this year; however after an excellent performance last week Fire were confident of turning the tables.
Fire started very brightly with some good slick ball movement, allowing them to get behind the Olympic defence after some good lead up play through the middle. A great chance from a Kaelan Debbage corner was headed just over the bar early on, and a Debbage free kick scraped the wrong side of the post as Fire dominated early on.
Keegan New produced a great run and cross that Tom Whittaker volleyed just wide, before Fire finally grabbed the goal from a twenty-five yard free kick curled delightfully into the top corner by Jordan Meredith.
Late in the first half Budd Baulbys received a second yellow card, which changed the complexion of the game, and a minute before the break Olympic grabbed an equaliser from one of their first chances of the match.
A re-jig of positions had Fire back on track in the second half and despite having ten men, however Olympic also started to use the numerical advantage to cause some problems.
Five minutes into the second half, a free kick saw Fire regain the lead as a ball played to the far post was headed across goal by Harry Fletcher and Sean Bentley continued his goal scoring run with a header from a yard out.
Goalkeeper Eligh Williams was starting to be called into action and as usual, he did a fine job of relieving pressure with some good grabs from balls into the box.
Olympic grabbed an equaliser as a good run from their midfielder gained him some space and he rifled a cracking shot into the top corner from distance.
Fire hit back almost immediately to once again grab the lead as some good running from Tom Whittaker saw him chase down a ball over the top from Harry Fletcher, and sneak the ball past the Olympic keeper who was left in no man’s land.
Olympic continued to pile on the pressure as the minutes ticked away, and were rewarded with an equaliser that Fire felt should have been called up for a handball, but the referee allowed the goal.
Neither side was able to grab a win with the match finishing 3-3.
