Match Guide #5 | SCFC v GCKFC

From the Technical Director.

All of our teams are on their travels this weekend, Senior – U18’s travel to Gold Coast Knights on Saturday, whilst Juniors travel to SWQ Thunder on Sunday.

Alongside this we have our SAP U9 / 10 girls heading to their first Carnival at Eastern Suburbs, whilst our U9 Boys have their grading carnival in Redcliffe, good luck and safe journey to all travelling players, staff, families and supporters.

Some great results for our teams last weekend with our Senior men picking up a well-earned draw against Brisbane Roar and our U18 boys also delivering a convincing victory over their Roar counterparts.

Without going into too much detail about our Junior results, which can sometimes be unpleasant for opposition teams to read, our Juniors produced some convincing displays in all age groups V Olympic FC.

I feel this demonstrates the success of the program we run. All the hard work that has went into it (Starting in November, Residential program and S&C program) has certainly payed off and I’m incredibly proud of our coaches and players.

We made the exciting announcement of Frank O’Brien from Chelsea FC heading to the Coast in May, Frank will spend time with our players and staff.

We will also be announcing other major news in the coming weeks, the first coming in the shape of an English Championship club.

I will also take this opportunity to thank all of our amazing sponsors, who contribute to strengthen the Sunshine Coast ‘Fire’ brand within the local community, as well as Nationally.

Enjoy the football and safe travels

Melvyn

Under 18’s

Today we make our first trip away as a team. At the start of the season Ron and I completely rebuilt the team with only two of last season u18 boys remaining.

It was an exciting but daunting task and one I think has been extremely successful. The boys have made a strong start winning 3 out of 4 of their games and the performances continue to improve week by week.

I am incredibly proud to be coach of such a fantastic group of boys who are all equally committed to the team and each other.

Today we play Gold Coast Knights which will be a tough game but one we will be looking to control. On Wednesday night we travel to take on Brisbane City, a game I feel will go a long way in dictating how the league table goes at the end of the season.

Special mention to our SAP teams taking part in their carnivals this weekend. I’ll be joining the boys for much of theirs and wish I could be at the girls but I’ve still not figured out how to be in two places at once!

Captain’s Thoughts

Last Sunday we stood up and fought as a team and it showed. We deserved 3 points from the game but we have plenty of positives to take forward. We have set a standard now and the challenge is to continue it throughout the season starting with our first away game this weekend.

See you there,

Scott Ferries
