Nickolls returns to Fire

Sunshine Coast FC has strengthened its squad for 2016 by signing goalkeeper Sam Nickolls.

Nickolls becomes the second new addition to the Sunshine Coast FC line-up as Fire Coach Paul Arnison continues to build his squad for the PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland 2016 season.

The 22-year-old was previously a substitute goalkeeper for Fire from 2013 to 2014 before moving to Noosa Lions FC in 2015.

Nickolls said his return to Sunshine Coast FC in 2016 is due to the experience and confidence he gained as the starting goalkeeper for Noosa Lions FC.

“Playing with Noosa and being able to play regularly, gave me a new-found confidence and I gained a lot of experience from that,” Nickolls said.

Nickolls added that he is looking forward to playing against some of the best footballers in Queensland.

“I enjoyed playing for Fire, I’m excited to come back as a full-time player and compete in the NPL again,” he said.

Sunshine Coast FC Coach Paul Arnison said that Nickolls will be vital over the course of the 2016 season.

“He’s only young but he was voted Player of the Season at Noosa and he’s going to be a big part of our team next year,” Arnison said.

Arnison said Nickolls’ kicking and handling ability speaks for itself.

“He’s strong all-round and doesn’t have many weaknesses in his game. He knows how to place himself and is always in the right place when he’s needed,” he said.

Arnison added that Nickolls will have a strong presence and he will stand out as a senior player in a young team.
