A year of hard work has paid off for 17 Sunshine Coast FC Academy players selected into the Fire’s 2014 NPL teams.
The SCFC Academy, which started in February this year, provides a pathway for football development for young players looking to progress into the NPL competition. Modelled on the FFA National Curriculum, the Academy strives to set the benchmark for player development in Queensland.
The players had been training twice each week with Academy coaches Ben Cahn and Paul Arnison ahead of the trials. Cahn said the selection of so many SCFC Academy players into the NPL teams was a great reflection on their hard work at training.
“We had a huge number of Academy players who knew they wanted to trial for the 2014 NPL teams. During term three they really worked hard to ensure they were prepared for the trials,” Cahn said.
“To have so many Academy players involved in the trial process was great and shows the wealth of talent coming through the ranks at our Club.”
The Under 12 Boys age-group had the largest number of Academy trialists, and Coach Peter Higginson selected 12 Academy players into the squad following trials.
“I was really impressed with technical quality of the Academy players who trialled and I’m excited to continue their football development in the under 12s NPL next year,” he said.
The Sunshine Coast FC Academy is now running for six to ten year olds. If you would like to become involved in the Academy please see our website or contact the office on 5437 9855 to apply for a trial.
