Coaching Appointment: Fire GKs In Safe Hands

The Fire are delighted to announce the appointment of Gareth Simmonds to the club as our Senior Goalkeeping Coach for U18s to men’s NPL.

For the last two seaons, Gareth worked at Redlands United as their Youth & Senior NPL Goalkeeper Coach and prior to this has over 12 years experience coaching at National League level in New Zealand and locally in Queensland and Darwin.

Gareth also brings with him a vast wealth of playing experience having having represented  New Zealand at youth level and also played multiple seasons in the New Zealand National League for Napier Rovers and Hawkes Bay.

FireTV spoke to Gareth last night at training to get his first impressions at the club and he said “Working with Richard and Melvyn, it look likes they really have it all under control. There’s some good players and the keeping quality is really high. I’m really excited to get into it.”

Senior Head Coach Richard Hudson said “We’ve made another great addition to the senior staff this year and our coaching team is looking exceptionally strong. I think we’ve got a really great balance of coaches who all bring different strengths to the table and I can’t wait to see how it all comes together this year.“
