Fire’s Junior Development Program best in PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland

Sunshine Coast FC is expecting a great response for the 2015 trials with the 2014 results cementing the Club’s position as having the best Junior Development Program in the PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland.

The 2014 NPL season saw the Fire Junior Teams (Under 12s to Under 18s) gain stellar results against teams across the South-East of Queensland.

At the end of the 2014 season in September, the Fire had the highest number of junior teams to win League Titles and the highest number of teams to place in the top two. Three Fire teams won their respective League Titles and seven of the eight junior teams placed in the top two. The Fire was also the only Club in the QLD NPL to have all junior teams place in the top four.

The Under 15 Girls won the Title with four games to spare, finishing the season 19 points ahead of second-placed Brisbane-based powerhouse Olympic FC. Meanwhile, the Under 12 Boys won the title by seven points and the Under 16 Boys won by two points.

NPL statistics also revealed the Fire had the strongest defensive and attacking records in the junior competition. The Fire had eleven goal scorers listed in the top-five highest-goal scorers for their respective age-groups; the highest number of any QLD NPL Club. With an average of 1.2 goals conceded per game, Fire also had the best defensive record, followed by Brisbane Strikers with 1.25 goals conceded per game and Olympic with 1.4 goals conceded per game.

Aside from results, the number of players identified for trials was also a reflection of the strength of the Fire’s Junior Development Program. Twenty-seven Fire players were selected to participate in State Programs and a number have been invited to trial for A-League, W-League and UK-based teams.

Managing Director Noel Woodall said these results were a testament to the Fire’s Junior Development Program, which had been a primary focus of the Club.

“Junior Development has been a priority of the Club in the last two years with the advent of the NPL. Our priority has been ensuring that we have a program providing our young players with the best opportunity for development,” Mr Woodall said.

“It has been really pleasing to see that our program has been gaining excellent results for our players.”

The Sunshine Coast Fire will be holding the 2015 trails from October 6 to October 10. To register to trial visit the link below:
