Junior Match Reports – 23 April 2017

Under 12 Boys – SWQ Thunder (2) v Sunshine Coast FC (3)

Sunshine Coast FC and South West Thunder FC’s last match in Round 1 of the season ended in a draw and both teams were looking for the win.

The first few minutes saw early pressure from South West Queensland Thunder.

The 4-minute mark saw a well-positioned pass from Tanner Mathers to Luke Vancam who kicked the ball to Jeremy Byasse who unfortunately was caught off-side.

The fifth minute had South West Queensland Thunder take a corner, but the ball was struck over the goal.

South West Queensland Thunder took the opportunity to attack Sunshine Coast Fire FC’s goal at the 8-minute mark with a quick long distance shot under the cross bar that keeper Alec Lavender was unable to save. Thunder 1 – Fire 0.

Lavender was able to save South West Queensland Thunder’s next attack from a corner in the 9th minute.

The 11th minute saw Riley Moore send the ball through Byasse who was unable to pocket the goal.

The 15th minute saw Jett Wouters take the opportunity to pressure South West Queensland Thunder’s Goal Keeper during a back pass to score. Thunder 1 – Fire 1.

At 17minutes, Dré Ngaha passed the ball from deep mid-field to Wouters, who took a shot that rebounded from the goal post to Luke Vancam who scored. Fire 2 – Thunder 1.

The 18th minute saw Wouters send the first corner for Sunshine Coast Fire FC into the goal area, where Ryan Tappouras’ attempt on goal was saved by South West Queensland Thunder’s Goal Keeper.

The 27th minute had Vancam send a long pass to Wouters who took a signature left-foot strike to score. Fire 3 – Thunder 1.

The beginning of the second half saw early pressure from Sunshine Coast Fire and Wouters take a shot on target, although saved by Thunder’s goal keeper.

The 35th minute had Tappouras and Lachlan Noyes work swiftly together to clear another South West Queensland Thunder’s attack on Sunshine Coast Fire FC.

The 36th minute saw Herbie Allsopp send the ball through to Jeremy Byasse who took a long distance shot which was collected by Thunder’s keeper.

The next two minutes had Beppe Rocco make two attacks on Thunder’s goal, although neither were able to hit their target.

The 39th minute saw Vancam pass to Wouters who made a shot on goal which was deflected and Mark Shaw attempted a long-distance strike which was again saved by Thunder’s goal keeper.

The 55th minute saw a back-pass from Sunshine Coast FC player Noyes to GK Lavender intercepted by South West Queensland Thunder FC attacker to score. Fire 3 – Thunder 2.

Fire’s last minute throw-in by Ngaha to Wouters for a shot on goal was also saved by Thunder’s goal keeper. Final score Sunshine Coast Fire FC 3 – South West Queensland Thunder 2.

Player of the Match: Jett Wouters for listening to instructions, working really hard and doing exactly what was asked of him.

 

Under 13 Boys – SWQ Thunder (5) v Sunshine Coast FC (2)

Heading into Round 10 for our second meeting of the 2017 season, Sunshine Coast FC Fire were looking to take away another win. The last encounter was on home soil where Sunshine Coast FC Fire were successful with a 6-2 win.

Both teams came out competitive, challenging each other from the beginning with South West Queensland Thunder stepping up the pressure. A lapse in concentration from Sunshine Coast FC combined with the speed of Luke Beutel from South West Queensland Thunder and the first goal was on the board on the 28th minute. South West Queensland Thunder 1-0.

Sunshine Coast FC Fire hit back pushing the ball around looking for an opportunity to equalise the score. This came on the 32nd minute when Harrison Whitelaw took the ball up the left, crossed it into Kane Gibbs who chipped it over the South West Queensland keeper to level the scores. 1-1

With three minutes left in the first half Sunshine Coast FC Fire remained strong however a counter attack saw South West Queensland Thunder score just as the whistle blew taking them to a 2-1 lead on the 35th minute.

Both teams returned to the pitch determined to take out the match. Sunshine Coast FC Fire moved the ball around their attacking half however the South West Queensland Thunder used their strength to consistently close down Fire’s attack.

South West Queensland Thunder took advantage of any space they were given with a successful shot on goal from outside of the box on the 54th minute taking them to 3-1 lead.

Again Sunshine Coast FC Fire lifted to try and close the gap and on the 66th minute this determination and persistence came to fruition with Gibbs dribbling the ball up the right and taking a shot. A deflection off the opposition keeper resulted in a follow in goal by Jake Rocker. South West Queensland Thunder leading 3-2.

South West Queensland Thunder retaliated immediately scoring on the 67th minute to increase their lead to 4-2.

With minutes remaining both teams fought it out with Sunshine Coast FC Fire looking to reduce the deficit and South West Queensland looking to do the opposite.

Once again South West Queensland Thunder took advantage of their strength and speed with a counter attack to finish out the match with a goal on the 70th minute giving South West Queensland Thunder a successful result of a 5-2 win over Sunshine Coast FC.

Player of the Match: Joshua Kacperski – strong and consistent in defence

 

Under 14 Boys – SWQ Thunder (0) v Sunshine Coast FC (3)

It was an even start with both teams feeling each other out. Fire finally won a corner. Connor Hyder met the ball well and headed into the ground with the ball bouncing up and off the cross bar only for the keeper to re-gather.

Toby Evens-Gilham created numerous chances utilising his pace and strength but couldn’t find the net. In the 6th minute he made a great break and ran at the goal on an angle. The keeper somehow finds himself caught in the side net of the goal. Fortunately the Thunder cover defence stops Evens-Gilham from getting an effective shot away.

Fire found plenty of space down the wing with Jake Debbage and Corne Boshoff causing plenty of havoc and making life very difficult for Thunder defence.

Evens-Gilham again found himself 1v1 with the keeper after some great work from Debbage. He rounded the keeper only to find the angle too tight and the Thunder defence scrambling back.

A great run from Jayden Emery forced another corner. Boshoff sent a great corner into the 6 yard box, the keeper fumbled and Hyder reacted the quickest to tap in from close range.

After some great combination play between Aughterson and Aaron Smith another opportunity was created for Evens-Gilham as he blasted the ball against the upright.

Emery won the ball in midfield and squared a great pass to Connor Evans who drove the ball just wide of goal from distance.

Both teams start the second half slowly. Thunder had no urgency in their game and seemed more focused on kicking and fouling their opponents rather than playing a good brand of football.

Emery weaved his way through the Thunder defence.  He cut inside on to his right foot and placed the ball beautifully into the far corner.

Aughterson pounced on a wayward pass form the Thunder keeper. He exploded towards goal and slotted the ball perfectly into the far corner.

Player of the Match: Aaron Smith – a fine game with some excellent displays of first touch, passing and determined tackling.

 

Under 18 Boys – Western Pride FC (13) v Sunshine Coast FC (1)

Saturday afternoon saw the Fire 18s line up against the top of the table Western Pride home stadium.

Fire appeared to start relatively well, maintaining possession but unable to push out of their defensive area. It didn’t take long for Pride to break loose with a long cross finding an open left wing for Sharples to open the score in the 5th minute.

8’ Goal Pride – as Sharples scored his second goal after Fire defence lost its shape.

Pride continued to dig at the Fire goal but keeper Porter managed to keep the shots at bay during the first quarter of the game.

Fire managed to drive a few attacks into the Pride box but these were stalled by a strong defence, often with quick and threatening counter attacks.

23’ Goal Pride – As Kabalu snaps quick one in from a congested box following a corner kick.

31’ Goal Pride – Hermann scores after running through the centre of almost three quarters of the pitch whilst outpacing Fire defence.

32’ Goal Pride –  With Kabulu wasting no time scoring his second after a pacey run.

34’ Goal Pride – Wilson capitalises on a scrappy box following corner kick.

37’ Goal Pride – Kleinhans counters through centre to finish with chip over keepers head.

45’ Goal Pride – And Kabalu finds his hat-trick.

HALF TIME 8-0 to Western Pride

Second half, and some changes to Fire line-up appeared to stem the flow of Pride goals. A solid challenge by substitute Payne however earned him a Yellow Card at the 51’ mark.

Pride did not manage to score again until 62’ when Sharple’s pace saw him net his hat-trick.

74’ Goal Pride – As Hart adds his name to the tally.

78’ Goal Pride – Doyle knocks one in after a solid parry from Fire keeper find a loose ball in the box.

82’ Goal Fire – Huston took the free kick following a foul on Ward just outside of the Fire penalty area. The ball sailed over the wall to dip just below the cross-bar.

84’ Goal Pride – Sharples makes it 4 for the night.

85’ Goal Pride – The in-form Sharples nails his 5th after getting his head behind rebounded header following a Pride corner kick.
