Sunshine Coast Fire Under 18 Boys secured a convincling 4-1 win over Peninsular Power in the team’s first pre-season game of the Macron Cup at Redcliff.
Within 30 second Fire saw the first chance fall to Jacob Fulluck, and Jordan Lloyd was awarded a free kick in the second minute.
In the 4th minute Fulluck flicked in a Cameron Nairn corner to give the Fire a goal advantage, before Luke Devitt extended the Fire’s lead as he beat a man at half-way to drive and finish at the near post in the ninth minute.
The Fire created a few more chances without scoring in the 13th and 19th minutes. In the 27th minute a Peninsular Power player capitalised on a poorly cleared corner to bring the score to 1-2 in Fire’s favour.
Fire continued the strong form after the re-start, in the second minute a strong run from Fulluck down the right wing ended in a pass to Kobe Fuller, who miss-hit his shot on goal. Just three minutes later Devitt and Fulluck’s combination play lead to a cross to Cameron Nairn, who blasted his shot straight to the Power keeper.
Devitt had a chance of his own a few minutes later but his shot at distance missed the target.
In the 56th minute good work from Cam Nairn down the left allowed him to pass to Fulluck who headed the ball in for the Fire’s third.
Just a minute later Luke Marker was forced into a save by Power, before Fire gained a corner which saw Kobe Fuller have a chance which missed the target.
In the 68th minute Fire was awarded a penalty which Fulluck calmly slotted in to bring the score to 4-1, before Fire wrapped up the game with a final chance falling to Nairn after combination play with Jordy Irwin.
Coach Daniel Carew said he was pleased with the strong opening display from the team in what is set to be a challenging Macron Cup.
