Brisbane City consigned Sunshine Coast to a winless season at Corporate Travel Management Stadium on Saturday night following a 4-1 victory over Fire.
The home side dominated from start to finish and were on the board early through Owain Thomas and Simon Biel, linking up to provide a goal each inside the first twenty minutes.
Thomas and Biel’s tandem display canceled out Jez Lofthouse’s instinctive equaliser and Sam Sibatuara then doubled the City lead quickly after Biel’s go ahead goal to end a frenetic opening period and allow City a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
Captain Greg King added a penalty after the interval, in a half where City could easily have scored four or five.
The win for John Kosmina’s side ended the season on a positive note despite missing the Finals for the fourth straight year, for the Fire it ended a forgettable season for the club who will hope to produce a far more positive 2018 season in the revamped PlayStation 4 NPL Queensland.
4′ GOAL FOR CITY – Simon Biel latches onto a long-throw down the line before squaring to Owain Thomas who knocks the ball in at the near post.
13′ GOAL FOR FIRE – A City clearance only gets as far as Jez Lofthouse, instinctively Lofthouse sends a curling shot over the head of Jake Clancy to equalise.
16′ GOAL FOR CITY – Thomas turns provider as his cross is nodded into the bottom left corner of the net by Biel.
18′ GOAL FOR CITY – Samuel Sibatuara receives the ball just inside the penalty area and slots the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal to extend City’s lead.
48′ CHANCE FOR CITY – Biel forces a fine save from Kevin Downes in a one on one with the Fire captain.
50′ CHANCE FOR CITY – A fine double save by Downes denies Sibatuara and Biel in quick succession.
67′ GOAL FOR CITY – Downes fouls Nathan Bird in the penalty area, handing Greg King the opportunity from the spot, which he takes by smashing the ball right down the middle.
70′ CHANCE FOR CITY – Downes pulls off a series of saves after Motoki Kakehi’s long range strike is palmed down in the box.
79′ CHANCE FOR CITY – Carter Glockner sees a fierce driving shot saved before the follow-up shot is blasted over the bar.
81′ CHANCE FOR CITY – Sibatuara dances past four Fire defenders in the penalty area before blazing his shot over the goal.
