Sunshine Coast FC is pleased to announce trials for the 2014 Open Women’s National Premier Leagues team from November 6 to December 6, 2013.
The trials will take place at Stockland Park field six each Wednesday and Friday within these dates.
The Fire Open Women’s team will provide talented female footballers on the coast with the opportunity to compete in the State-wide National Premier Leagues next season.
Sunshine Coast FC Managing Director Noel Woodall said he was pleased to announce the trial dates and had already received expressions of interest from current Club players and footballers from further afield.
“Sunshine Coast FC has always been committed to the development of female football,” Mr Woodall said.
“In previous years aspiring female players would have had to return to community football, or travel to play at a higher level, however now they can remain on the Sunshine Coast and compete in an elite program against talented footballers across the state,” he said.
Sunshine Coast FC has a strong history with women’s football; the Women’s Fire team competed in the 2008 and 2009 Zone Football Competitions and won the Premiership and Championship both years. The 2008 team was also undefeated through the entire season.
Former NPL Under 16s Coach Dave Bensted has been announced as the Coach for the 2014 Open Women’s squad and says he aims for the new team to continue the Fire’s high football standards.
“Next year promises to be an exciting time for senior women’s football on the Sunshine Coast. We are proud to once again have a ladies team representing our region. The Coast has a long tradition of producing good female players and we aim to provide these talented players with the opportunity to continue their development at the senior level,” he said.
“We have already received a positive response from some great players in our area and I am excited about the trials ahead in November. We believe with the hard work we are doing and the planning that is taking place that our girls’ program will be unrivalled in years to come. To this end we have high hopes of being able to apply for a W-League licence in the not too distant future.”

Trials will be at Stockland Park Field 7 – 6:00 – 7:30pm on each of the following dates:
