The Under 14 Girls took on Wide Bay on Sunday for Round 18 of the NPL, and managed their eighth straight win, defeating Revolution 5-1.
Goal scorers were Lisa van Hooijdonk (2), Aqua Meanie, Maisie Berry and Michelle le Roux.
Coach Tom White said the girls played tirelessly in the hot weather; however they did lack some of their usual rhythm.
“Wide Bay was strong and won numerous 50-50s. Luckily some good defending kept us away from trouble.”
Lisa van Hooijdonk scored two composed goals, along with Michelle and Aqua who scored one each. Maisie Berry scored the goal of the game with a long-range strike over the Wide Bay goal keeper.
“I think this game showed how far we have come as a team, especially when the football was not flowing as well as it usually does. They put in the extra work to cover each other and I think we deserved the win in the end,” White said.
“We do need to learn from our mistakes and we do tend to make the same mistake more than once, however this is part of the girls’ development and something we are working to correct.”
