Fire See Off Fast Finishing Power in Macron Cup

Words: Michael Flynn

Sunshine Coast FC maintained their winning start to pre-season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Peninsula Power in the Macron Cup at Dalton Park.

Both sides exchanged chances throughout the first half before Louis Shepard netted the opener for Fire, venturing inside from a wide area eight minutes before the break.

Fire player-coach Paul Arnison doubled the advantage after the interval from the penalty spot after Rhys Roberts earned the penalty.

Jacob Fulluck then rounded out Fire’s haul with a neat finish after being played in by teammate Kaine Frew.

Power fought back in the latter stages as Steven Cleary scored from a cross with 15 minutes remaining and Byron Napper pulled Power within a goal from a free-kick shortly after.

However, a heated close to the match proved Power unable to find an equaliser and sees Fire remain undefeated in 2015.

Fire continue their Macron Cup pre-season campaign against defending PlayStation® 4 NPL Queensland Champions Palm Beach SC on Saturday at AJ Kelly Park in Redcliffe.
